The Benefits of Using Assignment Examples

The academic life is full of school works and activities. In addition to daily school works, professors also give assignments. These assignments may be submitted before a certain deadline, the next day or the next week, depending on the difficulties and the intricacy of the given assignment. The may be assigned to write military essays on the mistakes of the Japanese government in the Battle of Guadalcanal, or a written review of "The Merchant of Venice."

Some students, however, find it difficult to write an essay or a review for many reasons. One reason is their lack of interest in the topic. Second is their lack of knowledge of the given topic. Third is the unfamiliarity of the writing style or format of a given piece. The third reason is becoming more prevalent today; especially that many compose their assignments without knowing what to put and how to write.

The third reason can be solved by looking at assignment examples. If a student has no idea what a dissertation is like, he may acquire copies of other dissertation from a friend, a schoolmate or from the school library. He may compare the examples and note how they are similar to each other.
He may also take note of the formatting of the paper, how it is structured and printed. A student may also take note of the page numbering, paragraph style, fonts, text spacing and references.

Different coursework types also require different formatting from different authorities. A professor may instruct his student to use the Harvard system of referencing, but a student does not know what it is and how it is used in a paper. The student may go to the library and borrow some papers that use Harvard system of referencing and use them as assignment examples. He could use the examples as a guide when creating references using the Harvard system.

If a student has no idea what to write in his thesis, he could also assignment examples as references and guides. He may take note of how the thesis statement was developed and how the body was written to answer particular questions.

A student who has essay or dissertation examples must take care not to commit a grave mistake in assignment writing -- plagiarism. The examples are just guides and references, not materials for copy and paste. One should use other's works only as examples.

Tips in Writing a Religion Essay

Students who are assigned to write a religion essay may find the task intimidating initially especially if they do not devoutly practice any Religion themselves. However, there are many ways to avoid this mindset in order to be able to submit a high-quality coursework assignment. The key is for the writer to be able to break down the religion he or she is discussing into its smaller components:

Overview of its origins. Every religion is its origins in terms of a place, who its original founder is, and if there are any major groups of people associated with it as well as a religious experience attributed to a particular person. The historical background of the religion will provide an interesting foreground for its discussion.
Creed (What are the philosophies of this religion and how does it define the meaning of life?), Code (What is the nature of its ethical standards? What are the rules and customs which its people are instructed to follow?) and Cult (What are its ways of worship and rituals?). The three Cs form the core of discussion in a Religion essay.

A Religion essay, depending on its length and the specific focus that your professor requires, may either tackle all of these issues in passing or focus on one particular aspect. For example, if you would like to highlight the “Creed” aspect of a religion, you can talk about its doctrines or the forms in which the different aspects of the religion are taught, studied and passed along. Major religions like Judaism, Islam and Christianity record their doctrines in the Torah, Koran and Bible respectively while others choose to pass it on in oral form from one generation to another.

One of the most interesting ways of a religion is its rituals and practices, especially if these significantly differ from the ones you have been exposed to. Rituals serve as a way to bind and reinforce the sense of purpose of members of a particular Religion. There are rituals that vary between religions to commemorate birth, puberty, marriage and death.

You can also discuss one of the most important aspects of a Religion which is a factor to why it survives despite modernization and the presence of other religions: its ethical code. The ethical code of a religion defines how their members are expected to behave based on their gender and status in the community and the religious hierarchy.

My Lessons on Writing a Personal Statement For University Admissions

As a secondary school teacher for year 12 and 13 students, I would usually make an extra effort in teaching and helping these students to learn because those are the year levels when they prepare for either entering the labour market and looking for jobs, or they would prepare in submitting their applications for universities or colleges if they want to pursue higher education. I always tell my students that the last two years of secondary education would be the initial process of preparing them in applying for admissions to the higher education institution of their choice. I would tell my students that writing a personal statement or statement of purpose that is well written is a major factor considered by the admission committee of a university or college in approving the application of a prospective student.

So for the past four years, I have been regularly conducting some lessons for writing a personal statementthat is correct and proper for the year 13 students that I teach as a way of helping them in the various procedures they would undergo in submitting their applications for admissions to higher education institutions. In my lesson on personal statement writing, I would discuss on the proper and relevant information that should be included in the statement such as the reasons for choosing a particular course and the school where it is offered, and if there are any personal experiences that influenced the individual in choosing the course.

To make my lessons on writing a personal statement more interesting and engaging for my students, I have conducted some of my lessons in personal statement writing with the use of the Powerpoint presentations that are available in the school's computers. I have learned that when I converted my lesson on how to write a personal statement into a Powerpoint presentation program that made extensive use of images, graphics, animation and other visuals, the students would listen more carefully to my lesson and they are more interested on my discussions. Furthermore, my lessons on personal statement writing is no longer boring and my students are more engaged and involved in asking questions or any clarifications about my lesson.

Using a Personal Statement Example Correctly

It is a common part of the requirements for entrance into universities and colleges for the applicant to write a personal statement. A personal statement is an essay talking about the applicant's life experiences, interests and achievements on a personal level. It provides the reader, who is usually a university admissions officer, an idea of the applicant as a person more than any scholastic record or statistic can illustrate. Since many students find it difficult to write an effective and interesting personal statement, it would serve them well if they follow a personal statement example.  A personal statement example has the following advantages for an applicant:

  • It can be used as a guide in terms of structure, selection of content, organisation of ideas, and format. While there is no universal format or structure that will apply to all personal statements, a good personal statement example that has been previously approved by the student's preferred university will more or less give the student an idea of what the university likes or what is appropriate to his or her preferred degree programme.
  • A good personal statement example has no mistakes, be it grammatical or spelling. A student can emulate how the student who wrote the personal statement example was able to make his or her personal statement error-free.
  • One of the most difficult challenges for any writer is being stopped by writer's block from producing appropriate and well-organised material. Seeing that someone was already able to accomplish writing a good personal statement example will inspire the student to finish writing his or her own.

A personal statement has a deep impact into the student's chances of gaining entrance into his or her preferred degree programme and university. This is especially the case for degree programmes from popular and renowned universities, where the applicants are all academic achievers with almost similar backgrounds. A good personal statement serves as the determiner of the student applicant's writing skills and personality, which are important factors being considered by higher learning institutions to predict if an applicant is likely to make it through university without dropping out or shifting to another degree. Once student is already in college, he or she can expect to receive lengthier and subject-specific assignments such as religion essay, physics essays, philosophy essays and other kinds of coursework.

My Religion Essay on Religious Behaviour and Experience

I was a second year university taking up a bachelor's degree in psychology when we had to perform a religion essay writing task during the third term. The essay on religion was part of our subject on human behavioural studies and religion is an important factor that affects or influences human behaviour. So I researched and studies several topics in religion so I could choose a specific topic for the essay and I studied the themes or ideas in religion that would be the focus of my essay topic.

When I finished reading and studying the materials, I decided to choose the topic of religious behaviourand experience as my religion essay topic and the focus of my topic would be the main categories or fields under the topic of religious behaviourand experience. So I researched and read various reading materials in the library and from the Internet about religious behaviourand experience.

I learned that there are six main categories or fields under religious behaviourand experience – meditation, nonviolence approach, pilgrimage, prayer, places of worship, and religious rituals. I decided to make a summariseddiscussion for each of those categories in my religion essay. I also made sure that I made a thorough research of my topic from the materials I read in the library and from various Internet websites. I made sure that I would only collect and use the data and other materials that are relevant for my topic.

For example, my essay discussed prayer and meditation in this way:
Prayer is the act of communicating with a deity. Praying has always been part of every religion and the primary purposes of praying would include worshiping, asking for guidance and help, confessing sins or mistakes, and expressing the thoughts and emotions of the individual to the deity that he worships.

Meditation is the group or category of practices in which the individuals or practitioners of a certain religion or faith would train or induce their minds into a mode of consciousness that would produce positive benefits. Almost every religion in the world has developed and enhanced its own way of meditation that is beneficial to the practitioner of the particular religion.

Make use of online tools such as search engines, educational websites sponsored by acclaimed universities, journals and organisations, as well as regular interaction with fellow scholars online through blogs, chat and form discussions. Constant interaction with other academics ensures that the student is able to look at things from all perspectives, including those opposing his own. Part of the life of a scholar is to constantly be challenged for his or her ideas as a way to prove its authenticity or feasibility.

Coursework Writing For a Business Essay

Academic works for courses or also known as coursework tasks would usually be researched and written by university and college students. The types of academic works could be essays, dissertations, book reports or reviews, other literature reviews, critical analysis of literary works, presentations, research reports, and other written academic works for courses on business that could be specified by the lecturers of the students. The business essays about particular business topics are one of the most common types of academic works for courses.

Hence, a student performing a coursework task consisting of a business essay should know how to research the essay topic and write the essay on business. There are several general tips or guidelines for students on how to research and write academic works on business:

Selection of a topic – If the student is given the option of selecting his own essay topic, he should preferably choose a topic that is familiar and interesting for him, and it is feasible and manageable to research and write about the topic within the scheduled period. However, the student should also consider the interests of his lecturer and the intended readers of the essay. If the student is assigned a topic, he should study and familiarise himself with the topic as part of his research process.

Performing the research – The student should perform a comprehensive research with the university library and the Internet as the primary sources of his data and other materials. He could use the manual bibliographies and library catalogs or the online catalogs in the library in searching for the reading materials of his research. The reading materials on business includes reference books, journals, newspapers, and magazines.

Outlining and structuring the business essay – The outlining and structuring of the coursework task document is important regardless if the document is an essay or any other type of academic works for courses. Outlining the essay would help the student in organising his ideas and thoughts so he would know the specific information that is relevant and should be included in each part of the essay. The outline is based on the basic essay structure consisting of the introduction, body and conclusion.

Formatting and writing the business essay – The format of the essay is based on the specific style manual specified by the lecturer. In writing the essay, the student should take note of the specific information for each part. The introduction has a single paragraph that presents a brief summary of the topic, and a thesis statement as the last sentence. The body consists of several paragraphs that contain background about the topic, and supporting information for the arguments. The conclusion summarises the discussions from the body and emphasizes the main points or ideas from the body.

Using Powerpoint Presentations for Essay Writing Lessons

The powerpoint presentations or power point presentation is a brand of presentation program consisting of a computer software that displays information as a slide show. A common use of powerpoint  presentations are in academic settings such as the classrooms, gymnasiums, computer laboratories and science laboratories for primary schools and secondary schools, and in lecture halls for universities and colleges. The powerpoint presentations has become a supplementary visual aid in teaching lessons together with typeset slides, blackboards or whiteboards, and overhead projectors.

There are several advantages in using powerpoint pesentations as visual aids for teaching students such as the easy steps that enable teachers or lecturers in learning to use powerpoint within a short time. In addition, the presentation content could combine dynamic text, animation, graphics, and other visuals that could make a lesson on Powerpoint very interesting and engaging for the students so they would not be bored during the lesson.

Many lecturers from universities and colleges would now discuss a lesson on essay writing with the use of the powerpoint presentation as the supplement visual aid together with the traditional visual aids such as whiteboards and overhead projectors that are commonly used in lecture halls. A lesson on the basic tips on how to perform research and write an essay could be more effective for students if the powerpoint presentation as a supplement visual aid.

For example, essays that involve subject areas that have many discussions on categories and sub-categories, field and sub-fields, and a comprehensive topical outline of the subject could be discussed or taught more efficiently to a class or large audience of students if the powerpoint presentations are used as the supplement visual aids together with other educational or teaching visual aids.

A good example is the discipline of business as a major course taught in universities or colleges. The business essays are researched and written by students taking up various courses in or related to business such as accountancy, business science, business administration, commerce, economics, management, marketing, and other courses related to business.

A lecturer teaching some lessons about the process for researching and writing a business essay could be teaching many students from those courses so that he could possible use the same lesson for the same group of students. Therefore, the lecturer would have an easier time to discuss his lesson on the research and writing process for a business essay if he uses a powerpoint presentation program as a supplement visual aid together with a whiteboard and an overhead projector.
